How does Accenture help the state of Texas? Employee Engagement
Accenture's Austin office raised more than $9,300 for Junior Achievement of Central Texas in its bowlathon in the spring 2006.
- Three Austin employees founded Team Justin in honor of a former Accenture employee. The former co-worker was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in February 2002. Awareness, research and fundraising for ALS are top priorities for Team Justin.
- Accenture was the inaugural sponsor of the Partnerships for Austin Children in Crisis Gala. An Accenture employee in Austin co-chaired the event. With Accenture's help, the gala raised more than $50,000 to support the Rainbow Room and CPS case workers serving abused and neglected children in the Austin area.
- The Accenture Public Service volunteer network, which supports Accenture volunteers and their clients working in the public sector across the United States, worked to aid communities continuing to rebuild following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Their national Coast-to-Coast initiative delivered more than 500 much-needed backpacks and school supplies to children returning to school this fall in Austin and Houston.
- Accenture was the premier sponsor of Austin's Love, Love, Love Gala benefiting the Women's Advocacy Project. This event raised nearly $100,000 to fund free legal services for victims of domestic violence.
- More than 100 Accenture employees from the Houston and Austin offices participated in the annual MS150 Bike Tour as riders or volunteers.
- The Dallas Resources Community devotes nearly 400 hours to the Accenture Friday Night Movies program at Children's Medical Center in the course of one year.
- The Dallas office raises more than $20,000 at the annual Junior Achievement of Dallas Bowl-A-Thon each year.
- Dallas employees adopted 193 angels and purchased gifts for 25 forgotten angels in their annual Salvation Army Angel Tree program.
- More than 120 Dallas employees from all communities and workforces volunteered more than 900 hours to build a Habitat for Humanity home in seven days.
- Dallas employees donated nearly $8,000 to The Salvation Army, Martin Luther King Development Center, Camp Summit, American Stroke Association, American Heart Association, Irving Salvation Army (Hurricane Katrina Fund and Children's Summer Camp), Camp Reynal, The Komen Foundation, The Arthritis Foundation and Children's Medical Center through monthly Jeans for Generosity contributions.
- In October, more than 100 Accenture employees, their friends and family members participated in the annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to Cure Diabetes. The Accenture team raised more than $23,000 to fund research to find a cure for this disease.
- One Accenture employee in the Houston office volunteered in Nigeria as part of Accenture's Voluntary Service Overseas. This program enables Accenture people to work abroad in developing countries, sharing their skills, knowledge and experience with nonprofit organizations, small businesses and local communities.
Civic Leadership Accenture people serve in leadership positions throughout Texas in various organizations. They take their keen expertise in business strategy, planning, management and teamwork skills to help nonprofit organizations achieve their missions. Here is a sample of the organizations in which Accenture people serve on the boards of directors and key committees. 
Community Building
Through our Aidmatrix Virtual Food Drive in 2006, Texas people donated more than $10,000 to feed the hungry.
- In conjunction with the American Red Cross and Aidmatrix, Accenture helped test a system that could automate disaster relief processes. Besides financial assistance and program consulting, Accenture lent 45 of its volunteers—mostly from Texas—in a test run of the new system in March. The volunteers served as "mock donors"—representing corporate and individual contributions—phoning in their "orders" or keying them into Web applications. In a one-and-a-half-hour period, each participant played the role of 5-10 donors.
- Accenture has established a new standard for commitment to our communities through our involvement with Junior Achievement affiliates in Texas. Since September 2000, more than 900 Accenture employees in Dallas have volunteered approximately 6,220 hours teaching Junior Achievement curriculum in local public schools affecting more than 11,000 children. Volunteers in Houston and Austin are also very active in Junior Achievement classrooms.
- Other Dallas community-building activities benefit the following organizations: Habitat for Humanity, The Salvation Army, Children's Medical Center, Buckner Children and Family Services Center, Martin Luther King Child Development Center, North Texas Business for Culture and the Arts, Komen North Texas Race for the Cure, United Way, The Dallas Arboretum and others.
- On February 25, 2006, more than 40 Accenture Houston employees and their family members painted a classroom and cleaned and landscaped outdoor play areas at Casa de Esperanza as part of our partnership with Volunteer Houston, a new Hands On Network affiliate.
- On March 18, 2006, more than 20 members of the Dallas finance community hosted 16 children from Jonathan's Place to a tour, gifts and lunch at the Dallas World Aquarium.
- On April 8, 2006, more than 16 members of the Dallas C&HT community created themed toy bears for children at the Buckner Children and Family Center.
- In June 2006, more than 145 volunteers participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Dallas. In addition to providing a race team, we sponsored the Accenture Kids Dash. Our sponsorship and in-kind donation exceeded $8,000.
Responsible Business
- In March 2006, the Houston and Dallas offices participated in Accenture's celebration of International Women's Day. More than 150 Accenture men and women gathered for a day of learning, contributing and celebrating International Women's Day.
- Created a "Take Your Culture to Work" day to celebrate diversity and inclusion across all of our people in the Dallas office.
- In July 2006, the Houston and Dallas offices hosted an annual "Take Our Kids to Work Day."
- In March 2006, one group of Houston employees held a cell phone collection drive and donated 60 cell phones to a United Way organization that reprograms the phones to only dial emergency numbers and distributes them to women in abusive situations.
- Since the beginning of the year, the Houston office has saved more than 250 trees through our recycling efforts.
