In November 1999, Accenture in the United Kingdom (along with Shell) was one of the founding members of the VSO Business Partnerships, which provide opportunities for employees to use their business skills in developing countries (Africa, Asia or Eastern Europe). Accenture offers employees the opportunity to take time off to undertake short-term business secondments of typically one to 12 months, and the financial support needed to make this viable. A number of other companies, recognising the great benefits of this scheme, have since joined. Visit the VSO website Accenture offices in 16 countries participate in the Voluntary Service Overseas Business Partnership scheme that provides the opportunity for employees to take a leave of absence to volunteer their time and professional skills to help developing communities.
