Accenture supports three organizations at a national level, using
the collective capabilities of its people across Canada to make the strongest
possible impact.
Our overall support includes employee volunteering,
corporate giving and fundraising. Junior Achievement
Accenture has supported Junior Achievement (JA) for more than 10 years. During the 2003-2004 school year, over 150 employee volunteers delivered JA programs to over 70 Accenture-sponsored classrooms in Toronto (101 volunteers and 48 classrooms), Ottawa (27 volunteers and 13 classrooms), Montreal (20 volunteers and 10 classrooms), Edmonton (2 volunteers for one program) and Vancouver. The programs reached close to 1800 students in four provinces.
In Toronto, Accenture volunteers deliver JA's Personal Economics program, helping grade seven students learn the importance of investing in themselves—assessing their skills, interests, strengths and values while exploring education and career possibilities.
The Economics of Staying in School program is delivered by volunteers in Ottawa and Montreal, helping students develop a positive attitude toward education, while recognizing the personal and economic costs of dropping out of school—defining success on personal terms and exploring types of careers that match their goals and lifestyle expectations.
In Ottawa and Edmonton, volunteers deliver the Company Program, developing students' entrepreneurial spirit. During the 15-week program, Accenture volunteers act as business advisors to young entrepreneurs helping them choose a company name, determine capital funding, operate their business, report to shareholders and liquidate and exit a business.
Junior Achievement (JA) has been in Canada since 1967 and is an international not-for-profit organization committed to bringing together business leaders, educators, parents and the community to help prepare youth for their future. It provides curriculum-enhancing programs to students from grades six through high school.
United Way
Accenture has supported the United Way in Canada for over 22 years. Our employees have donated over $2.4 million to agencies across Canada during the past five years (2000-2004) through an integrated online and one-to-one canvassing approach.
In 2004 alone, employees of Accenture and its affiliates, including Accenture Business Services for Utilities, raised $552,127.44 for United Way agencies.
Accenture's support for the United Way does not stop at the giving level. Our people also participate in United Way support activities such as the Loaned Representative Program and Days of Caring.
Accenture is also the proud presenting sponsor of three Leader Donor events, including the Hall of Fame Sunday event at the Corel Centre and the Major Donor Dinner for United Way/Centraide of Ottawa/Carleton, and the Pathfinders Dinner in Vancouver for United Way of Lower Mainland.
Accenture has been recognized for its contributions and has won or been nominated for several fundraising awards by United Way agencies across Canada. In 2003, Accenture was nominated for Employee Campaign of the Year in Vancouver and Leader Campaign of the Year (Under 1000 Employees) in Toronto.
Terry Fox Run
We have been a proud supporter of the Terry Fox Foundation for over 15 years. Over the past five years alone employees have raised over $626,000 to support cancer research.
Accenture was the second highest corporate fundraiser nationally for the Foundation in 2003, raising a total of $93,515 through the Terry Fox Run.
We are very pleased to have been recognized by the Terry Fox Foundation for our fundraising leadership, most recently by being awarded the 2003 Corporate Challenge award in Ottawa on May 12, 2004 for being the top fundraiser in the city for the third consecutive year.
For its 2003 campaign, Accenture received the following recognition from the Foundation:
- #1 ranked corporate fundraiser in both Edmonton and in Alberta overall
- #1 ranked corporate fundraiser in Ottawa
- #1 ranked corporate fundraiser in Fredericton, NB
- #2 ranked corporate fundraiser in Canada
- #3 ranked fundraiser in Ontario
- #3 ranked fundraiser in both Montreal and in Quebec
- #3 ranked fundraiser in Toronto
Taking part in the Terry Fox Run is a staple for Accenture people each September. In addition to the Run, several activities are organized by employees to increase awareness and raise money. These include pizza lunches, jeans days, raffles, book and CD sales and a national, in-house Silent Auction Web site.
Key to the campaign each year is an in-house Web tool for employees to make individual gifts to the Foundation and to indicate pledges they raised for the Run. The tool is important as it allows employees to take part in the campaign regardless of where they are based, without having to make a donation or submit pledges in person.
