Accenture is providing the means to send Canadian university students overseas to help on international development projects through a new innovative partnership with Engineers Without Borders (EWB).
EWB is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to international development. The nonprofit organization does work around the world to build capacity in rural areas on projects that focus on water and sanitation; food production and processing; and energy. Formed in 2000, it is Canada's fastest growing development organization and has sent more than 200 volunteers to work on 40 projects in 25 countries. Accenture partnered with EWB to create a new national level program under the Corporate Citizenship in Canada initiative. The program involves a campaign to raise Aeroplan Mile donations from Accenture employees across Canada that are then donated to EWB. EWB uses the Aeroplan Miles to send student volunteers on projects around the world. In the first year of the campaign, Accenture achieved an impressive result with over 100,000 Aeroplan Miles raised. To put that in perspective, those points would be able to easily send one volunteer to the Philippines. We look forward to continuing the momentum next year with goals of surpassing these results.
