"In an uncertain economic environment, employers will need to take extra care in keeping employees engaged and ensuring that they maintain their job performance,” said Powell. “Sound talent management strategies are now more important than ever.” "Clearly, job security is of paramount importance to employees right now. Nevertheless, employers must continue to find ways to improve the work experience for their employees or they may be faced with an unwelcome rise in employee departures when the economy improves.” "Organisations need to be careful to manage the expectations for the Generation Y/ Millennial group –who have, up until now, been working in a prosperous economic environment – without negatively impacting talent development. We are increasingly seeing organisations re-focusing their talent management techniques to provide employee programs that are customised to individual needs and we expect this trend to continue.” About the study More than 2,600 middle managers across 22 countries took part in the global Accenture study, for which 159 middle managers were surveyed in Australia in October 2008.
