Accenture in Australia’s Environmental Management System - ISO 14001:2004 Moving toward a greener future As an important part of our Corporate Citizenship program in Australia, our Melbourne and Canberra locations have successfully met the requirements for the ISO 14001:2004 certification—the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems (EMS).
Among the benefits of having an EMS in place is the assurance that we are minimising our impacts on the environment and living out the commitments of Accenture’s global Environmental Responsibility Policy [PDF, 44KB]. PDF Help Accenture’s commitment to the environment on a global level Accenture is committed to reducing its environmental footprint. At a global level, in addition to creating an environmental responsibility policy, Accenture has signed the UN Global Compact and has been measuring its environmental footprint across our operations. We have achieved global ISO 14001 certification for our environmental management system and become a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. To achieve ISO 14001, an organisation must put in place a set of environmental policies and practices that are executed in a repeated and measurable way. In Accenture’s case, our EMS sets targets for reducing our environmental impact across our operations. The ISO 14001 certification is attained when an approved auditor reviews the environmental management system in a particular office and confirms that it is consistent with the standard. Looking ahead In 2009 and beyond, we will continue ISO 14001 certification in line with global strategy. The Sydney office, in addition to moving its new 6 green star energy rated building - the highest rating available - will also undergo the ISO 14001 certification journey and implement its own EMS. Additionally, telepresence will be implemented in Sydney and Melbourne to reduce travel between cities. The scope of Australia’s environmental measurement approach will increase in line with the global program, while local energy reduction targets will be validated and renewable energy sources will be maximised where possible.
